In England it's 6 years but up to the consumer to prove it's a manufacturing(not wear and tear) fault. Reclamation laws vary a bit across Europe though. If they deem it's your fault it doesn't matter what warranty you have and if you bought it 30 minutes ago, it's still your fault and not covered. I still feel better knowing I had that protection in the event something did happen. Even if I don't break it, and it doesn't fail. regardless of what I do to it (drop it, spill water on it, throw it at someone) and have it fully repaired and working without having to pay.
